TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - A woman was killed following a two-vehicle crash near Silverlake Road and the I-10 on Wednesday, Aug. 7.
Police identified the deceased driver as 69-year-old Margaret M. Ramirez. Tucson Fire Department attempted to treat the unresponsive driver; however, her injuries were fatal and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives learned a grey 2019 Chevrolet Impala was traveling westbound on Silverlake Road and did not stop for the red light at the intersection.
At that time, a grey 2019 Kia passenger vehicle was traveling northbound through the intersection on a green light. The Impala drove in front of the Kia and the two vehicles collided.
The Kia came to rest on the sidewalk of the northwest corner. The Impala continued westbound after the collision, passing under the freeway, through the southbound lanes of S. Frontage Road and came to rest down an embankment on the far northwest corner of the intersection.
The adult female driver of the Kia was transported to the Banner -UMC hospital with minor injuries. Detectives have ruled out impairment as a possible factor. Ramirez was identified as the driver of the Impala. Next of kin has been notified.
According to the Tucson Police Department, the accident happened around 12:30 p.m. and involved two vehicles.
