UPDATE: Young Tucson girl dies days after being hit by vehicle on Flowing Wells Road

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - A young girl has died days after being hit by a car on Flowing Wells Road in Tucson.

The Tucson Police Department said Belen Mejia-Renteria, 11, was hit by a vehicle while she was crossing Flowing Wells near Prince late Sunday, Aug. 25.

The TPD said Mejia-Renteria was in a crosswalk, but did not hit the button for the pedestrian signal. Also, the TPD said she was “walking quickly, with her head down and never looked up before entering the crosswalk.”

Mejia-Renteria died at a local hospital on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

The TPD said the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene, was not impaired or speeding and cooperated with the investigation. No charges or citations have been issued.
