Police response at Westlake Village Apartment Homes on Thursday, July 23.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Officers from the Tucson Police Department responding to a report of a burglary instead found two runaway minors trying to get out of the rain.

The call happened at the Westlake Village Apartment Homes on Ajo Way, on Thursday, July 23. Someone found their apartment door open and reported seeing two people coming in and out of the apartment.

When officers arrived they found the door closed and could hear someone inside. The K9 officer called for backup, made contact with two suspects, and police evacuated nearby apartments.

After being told to exit the apartment, the two minors came out. One was returned to a parent and the other was taken to a crisis center.

Police are not treating this as a criminal case, according to Officer Frank Magos.
