The incident began around 3:30 p.m. when shots were fired in the 6400 block of Midvale Park.

The TPD said the 35-year-old Arviso fired several shots at another man during a fight. The victim was not hit, but his vehicle was.

Arviso allegedly ran from the scene and headed towards the Santa Cruz River.

As officers were looking for Arviso, they found another victim who said Arviso pointed a gun at him before going into the wash.

Officers were able to find Arviso in the wash and told him to drop his weapon. Arviso, who died at the scene, allegedly refused and an officer fired.

No officers were hurt and detectives are still investigating this incident.

According to the Arizona Department of Corrections, Arviso has a criminal history that includes convictions for burglary (2010) and armed robbery (2017).

The TPD said the officer who fired his weapon is John Knowlton, a 19-year veteran of the TPD.
