TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Access to the King Canyon Trailhead parking lot will be temporarily closed for a construction project to improve the parking lot.
Crews will begin by clearing and grubbing vegetation, potholing, placing caution fencing and mobilizing equipment. In in December the work will involve grading and drainage in preparation of paving the parking lot. Construction begins Nov. 23 and is scheduled to last until late January. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Drivers on Kinney Road may encounter an advisory speed limit reduction through the construction zone. The King Canyon Trailhead is located within Tucson Mountain Park off Kinney Road across from the Arizona Desert Museum.
The King Canyon Trailhead parking lot is being improved to accommodate 35 parking spaces and two parking spaces which can accommodate equestrian use.
The project will also provide improved visibility for vehicles accessing Kinney Road from the parking lot.
The project is funded by the Federal Highway Administration, Central Federal Lands Highway Division and Federal Lands Access Program.
