Burglary suspect shot, killed by Payson police

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - A knife-wielding burglary suspect is dead after they were shot and killed by Payon police early Monday, Jan. 4, 2020.

Officers were called to a suspected burglary near a town government building at around 3 a.m. Monday morning, according to a report by AZ Family. When police arrived, they found tools and other items that looked like they might be involved in a burglary.

Police received more calls about a suspicious person at an apartment complex and confronted a suspect at their car, AZ Family reports.

Officers said they told the 28-year-old suspect to get on the ground but he refused. When we refused again to drop his knife and get on the ground, officers fired their weapons, killing him.

The case has been turned over to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, which is normal procedure, according to AZ Family. The suspect has not been identified and the investigation is still ongoing.
