TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Leaders with the Pima County Health Department say we may be going into the next phase of COVID-19 vaccinations by the end of next week.

For now, the goal is getting all frontline workers in the 1A group inoculated by the middle of next week.

According to recent county numbers, ICU bed availability has dropped to 3%, and medical/surgery bed availability remains at 4% with less than 60 beds available as of Tuesday, Jan 5.

The health department also says ICU bed availability has NOT been above 10% since Nov. 11, 2020.

61% of all ventilators are in use, and 58% of ICU beds are holding a COVID-positive patient. And since the beginning of 2021, 80 people have died from the coronavirus.

PCHD says between March and October 2020, more than 24,700 people tested postive for COVID-19; and since Nov. 1, 2020, more than 46,700 people have been diagnosed with the virus in the county.

PCHD says January is on-pace for about 37,000 new infections.
