TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - The first doses of the Moderna vaccine arrived in Pima County this week and Green Valley Fire District and Drexel Heights Fire District are working in partnership with the Pima County Health Department to distribute the vaccine to their firefighters as quickly as possible.
“Protecting our firefighters is extremely important so they can continue to protect the communities we serve,” says Chief Doug Chappell with the Drexel Heights Fire District. “We are happy to be able to offer these vaccines to our employees and look forward to our second round doses next month.”
Captain Thomas Beckel of GVFD, pictured, received his first dose of the Moderna vaccine. “I’m just very glad for the opportunity in receiving the vaccine to protect my family and the community members that I serve on a daily basis. My biggest fear has also been taking this home to my family after getting off shift,” said Captain Beckel.
The Captian was in line early this morning to receive his first dose.
