TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - A motorcyclist has passed away as the result of a collision on Jan. 6, 2021.

Just after 9 p.m., officers from Operations Division South were dispatched to the intersection of S. 4th Ave. and E. 22nd St. for a serious-injury collision involving a motorcycle.

Tucson Fire personnel were on scene rendering aid to 25-year-old Daniel Joseph Huggins, the driver of a 2020 Harley-Davidson FXLRS. Huggins was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Traffic Detectives were contacted and responded to continue the investigation. Interviews conducted by detectives and officers determined that Huggins was traveling east on E. 22nd St. As Huggins approached the intersection at 4th Ave., a black 2011 Dodge Nitro traveling westbound on E. 22nd St. turned left in front of him.

The Nitro was attempting to go south on 4thAve. when Huggins collided with the passenger side of the vehicle. The driver of the Dodge Nitro remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

An officer from the DUI Unit determined that the driver of the Nitro was not impaired. Detectives also found that all roadway lights were operational at the time. Through roadway evidence, detectives believe that failure to yield while making a left-turn by the Nitro is a contributing factor in the collision.
