TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - On Tuesday, Jan. 12, the Sunnyside Unified School District’s Governing Board unanimously decided schools will remain in the remote learning model until further notice.
For now, the district says it will follow the county’s guidance for schools to remain in virtual learning for the next couple of weeks.
The Pima County Health Department will update recommendations to schools on or before Jan. 19th, at which time the board will meet again to decide on whether or not schools can safely return to a hybrid-learning model.
Sunnyside’s governing board says by this time, the full impact of COVID-19 over the winter break will be more apparent.
“PCHD staff have looked deep into the latest research and data, striving to provide the most informed recommendation to out schools as they navigate COVID,” said the board. “There is so much we still don’t know, and we need more time to analyze the data we have.”
