TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - The University of Arizona Police Department has been awarded two grants by the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
The grants, totaling $26,892, began on October 1, 2020, as part of the 2021 fiscal year. GOHS provided $15,000 which will be allotted for personnel while $11,892 will be allotted for equipment.
These grants provide support toward the deployment of officers for DUI enforcement and underage alcohol consumption and possession violations in addition to traffic enforcement.
As part of an ongoing effort, UAPD is regularly involved in the Southern Arizona DUI Task Force to conduct DUI and impaired-driver enforcement. GOHS funding assists UAPD in adding officers and equipment for these deployments.
Compliance with traffic laws is crucial to the safety of our community. With these grants, UAPD will be able to provide additional enforcement and education to the public during peak traffic periods and holidays.
UAPD reminds the community to remain alert while traveling, obey all traffic laws, avoid distracted driving and drink responsibly and legally.
