Authorities crack down on street racing group of 75 vehicles on south side

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Deputies with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and San Xavier District cracked down on street racing activity over the weekend.

911 call-takers received reports of street racing near Swan Road and Los Reales Road. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department fixed-wing aircraft, Survey Two, located approximately 75 vehicles gathered to race.

The Air Unit observed several active races at speeds around 100 miles per hour. As San Xavier District Patrol Deputies approached the area, vehicles began to scatter. Deputies were able to locate 30 of the vehicles involved.

During the investigation, deputies observed or had contact with cars that were not street legal and were brought to the location on trailers.

Ultimately, 48 individuals were arrested and released at the scene for participation in street racing.
