TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Spring is less than a month away- March 20th to be exact, which means warmer days for outdoor adventure. And Arizona State Parks & Trails is setting you up with four scenic road trips to take this spring.
Verde Valley to Sedona – After you catch a spring training game, head north of the valley to red rock country! This is a classic road trip, but there’s plenty to see along the way! On the I-17, you’ll pass right through the Verde Valley, where you can stop at Dead Horse Ranch State Park to enjoy the Verde River and lagoons, plus historic stops like Fort Verde and Jerome state historic parks! Stop at Red Rock State Park for a gorgeous hike before heading into town to grab a bite!
Southern Arizona Views – Southern Arizona has some of the best hiking in the state, and spring offers not only great weather, but great sights! As the landscapes turn to green in the brown desert, wildflowers pop up, yellow and purple, to spice up the views! Check out Picacho Peak State Park early in the season, or Oracle State Park later in spring!
Deep Southwest – If you’re starting in Tucson (or up for a longer trek), find awesome history at Tubac Presidio State Historic Park, then head down to Patagonia Lake and Sonoita Creek! The lakeside beach is a great place to cool off and take in the views, but Sonoita Creek is a quieter spot to hike along the river and enjoy some peace in the fresh air!
West Coast – Arizona’s “west coast” is where Colorado River adventure meets laid back beach days! Hike the trails and cool off in the water at Buckskin Mountain or Cattail Cove state parks for a great family-friendly version of the Lake Havasu State Park experience!
