TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - The driver of an SUV that crashed into a south-side residence is facing multiple charges.

On Wednesday, April 7, at about 3:40 p.m., a deputy with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department attempted to stop a Buick SUV on Bilby Road near Camino De La Tierra on Tucson’s south side for a traffic violation.

According to reports, the vehicle did not stop, and the deputy did not pursue it due to department policy.

The SUV then continued at high speed east on Bilby Road and drove through the stop sign at Cardinal Avenue. It then left the roadway and after going through a chain-link fence, the SUV collided with a residence in the 2800 block of West Bilby Road.

One resident was home at the time of the incident, but neither the resident nor the driver was injured.

The driver of the SUV, 37-year-old Nicholas Allen Newell, was arrested and booked into the Pima County Jail for unlawful flight from law enforcement, criminal damage, endangerment and driving under the influence.
