TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - A man was fatally shot after assaulting his girlfriend on Tucson’s south side.

The Tucson Police Department said the incident happened in the parking lot of a bank located in the 1700 block of West Valencia late Wednesday, April 28,

The TPD said Juan Carlos Velderrain, 32, assaulted his girlfriend, but she was able to get away and ask a bystander for help.

The woman got into the bystander’s vehicle and Velderrain verbally confronted them.

The bystander, a man, then shot Velderrain.

The TPD said Velderrain died at the scene and his girlfriend suffered injuries from the assault.

The shooter was interviewed and evidence was collected at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, but no arrests have been made.
