PCSD responds to armed barricade situation on northwest side

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Pima County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an armed barricaded suspect in a house near North Pocito Place and Root Lane this morning.

Just after 4 a.m., deputies responded to the 4000 block of North Pocito Place for a domestic violence call. While en-route they learned an adult male, armed with a gun, had barricaded himself in his residence with two children.

Upon arrival deputies attempted to make contact with the male, identified as 37-year-old Sergio Tapia. Deputies began giving commands over a loudspeaker and at the front door. Nearly two hours later, Tapia came to the door with the children. Tapia was tased during the encounter and taken into custody, uninjured.

The children were safely removed from the residence and reunited with family.

Tapia is being charged with two counts of Domestic Violence Aggravated Assault.

Domestic Violence Unit Detectives are continuing their investigation, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
