Pima County investigating death of jail inmate
TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - An inmate at the Pima County Adult Detention Complex died after collapsing in his dorm on Wednesday, July 21.
According to information provided by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, 55-year-old Weldon Ellis collapsed just before 1 p.m.
Corrections officers attempted life-saving measures and requested medical personnel.
Tucson Fire Department paramedics arrived and also attempted to resuscitate Ellis, eventually pronouncing him deceased.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the jail to conduct interviews and process the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
Ellis was being held on a $10,000 bond for a 2020 case. He was accused of identity theft, fraud and forgery.
