Tucson Police: Shoplifter dies after getting hit by vehicle while fleeing scene
TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - A suspected shoplifter died after he was hit by a vehicle while fleeing the scene, according to the Tucson Police Department.
The TPD said Nicholas James Hernandez, 32, was hit in the 6300 block of East Broadway Boulevard on Friday, July 30. He died at a local hospital.
According to investigators, Hernandez shoplifted from a business near Broadway and Wilmot Road. He was seen running from that business before he was hit.
The TPD said the driver of the vehicle cooperated with the investigation and impairment was not a factor. Detectives believe that mid-block crossing by Hernandez appears to be the major contributing factor of the collision.
The investigation is ongoing, and no citations or charges have been issued.
