LAS VEGAS (KOLD News 13) - Arizona lost Thursday in the second round of the Pac-12 tournament, but the Wildcats’ season isn’t over.
Colorado’s defense stifled Arizona while the Buffaloes put together strong runs in the second and third quarters of a 45-43 win.
Arizona (20-7), the national runner-up last season, is still expected to get a berth into the NCAA tournament. A longer run in the Pac-12 event would have given the Wildcats a chance to host early-round games.
The field for the NCAA tournament will be announced on March 13 and the Big Dance begins on March 16. The title game is set for April 3 in Minneapolis.
Mya Hollingshed led the Buffaloes (22-7) with 12 points while Lauren Ware had 15 points and eight rebounds for Arizona.
Colorado will face either defending national champ Stanford or Oregon State in a Pac-12 semifinal Friday.
