TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - A dangerous human smuggling attempt luckily ended with no injuries after migrants were found locked in a truck bed that had caught on fire.

K-9 deputies with the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office had tried to stop a Chevy Avalanche traveling on Interstate 10. Officers say stop sticks had to be used when the truck refused to slow down.

When the truck came to a stop, brush on the side of the road caught on fire and three people fled the vehicle.

Deputies then noticed the bed of truck had locked cover on it, and heard people screaming from inside.

As deputies were trying to help, the people inside were able to kick through the cover.

The people escaped the truck without injuries, and were turned over to Border Patrol.

The driver was arrested for failure to yield to law enforcement, and deputies were able to put the fire out.
