TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - A 16-year-old girl died in a crash on Tucson’s southeast side Monday morning, Jan. 23.
Tucson police say the crash on East Mary Ann Cleveland Way and west of South Atterbury Wash Way involved a Toyota Corolla driven by the girl and a Toyota Tundra driven by a man in his 30s.
Police did not release the girl’s identity, citing respect for her family and the fact that both drivers were from the same community.
The driver of the Tundra was treated for minor injuries.
The preliminary investigation by Tucson Police Department officers and detectives found that the eastbound Corolla veered into the oncoming lanes of traffic, striking the westbound Tundra just before 7:30 a.m.
Police determined that the driver of the Tundra was not impaired at the time of the crash. Speed is not believed to be a contributing factor in the collision, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
