PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- Phoenix police are investigating a deadly domestic violence incident that happened Monday night in a Laveen neighborhood.
According to authorities, officers received a domestic violence call just before 6 p.m. near 41st Avenue and Alta Vista Avenue, just south of Southern Avenue. Officers arrived to find an injured elderly woman in front of the house that was escorted away. Inside the home, police found a woman, who is identified as the suspect’s wife, later identified as Monica Castro, with serious stab wounds as the suspect carried two knives, one in each hand. Officers gave multiple commands before one officer shot the suspect, who has since been identified as 40-year-old Anthony Castro.
Neighbors say that three of the couple’s children ran out of the house asking for help. Later, family members told Arizona’s Family that the woman died at the hospital. The older woman, identified as the suspect’s grandmother, has since been released from the hospital.
This is the 14th officer-involved shooting in Maricopa County and the 18th in Arizona this year.
