Ben’s Bells receives $20,000 to renovate office space

A Tucson woman who dedicated her life to helping others got a big surprise Thursday.

Jeanette Mare, the executive director of the Ben's Bells Project received a $20,000 award.

Her organization distributed 1,000 bells across Tucson after the Jan. 8 shootings. Another 400 bells where hung at the Safeway on Ina and Oracle roads, where the shootings took place.

Mare was selected as the winner among 10 nonprofit finalists. The money came from Goodmans Interior Structures.

It'll be used to redesign their new office space.
