1,000 lose power in Sierra Vista after attempted theft

SIERRA VISTA, AZ — The attempted theft of a large copper wire extending from an electricity substation caused an estimated 1,000 Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative members to lose power for an hour Friday afternoon.
The incident at the San Rafael Substation east of the intersection of Buffalo Soldier Trail and Highway 92 resulted in a loss of service to members feeding off the Ramsey Substation, which is located in Hereford off of Highway 92, said Jack Blair, chief member services officer for the utility provider.
