Ex-Suns player Ceballos suffers heart attack

PHOENIX (KOLD) - Cedric Ceballos, a former Phoenix Suns all-star and slam dunk champion, has suffered a series of small heart attacks.

Ceballos, 42, was expected to undergo surgery today.

The 6-foot-6 forward played parts of 11 seasons in the NBA. He was playing this season for a minor league basketball team he co-owns, the Arizona Scorpions of the American Basketball Association.

"I feel blessed and very fortunate to be here today," Ceballos said in a comment on the team's website, "and to have made the decision to go to the hospital and get my symptoms checked out late last night.

"I ask everyone to keep me in your prayers as I make my journey back to good health.  Thank everyone who has called and is concerned.  While I want to respond and speak to everyone, I cannot right now, but will be in touch very soon.  God bless you," he said.

Ceballos played four full seasons and parts of two others for the Suns. He also works for the Suns' community relations department, serving as an in-arena emcee for Suns promotions.
