ASU senior wins Miss Arizona USA; UA senior runner-up

MESA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Erika Frantzve of Scottsdale was crowned Miss Arizona USA on Sunday night, with University of Arizona senior Caitlin Wilenchik of Paradise Valley finishing as runner-up.

Frantzve, a 23-year-old senior at Arizona State majoring in political science, will represent Arizona in the Miss USA pageant in 2012. The runner-up in Miss Arizona USA last year was competing as Miss Phoenix.

Wilenchik, 22, was named "Face of the Foothills" in a statewide contest sponsored by Arizona Foothills magazine last month. The KOLD News 13 intern was competing in Miss Arizona USA for the first time as Miss Scottsdale.

Each contestant was scored in swimsuit, evening gown and interview in the pageant, which was produced by Casting Crown Productions.

Rounding out the top five were Brittany Byrdy of Scottsdale, Tania Mendez of Phoenix and Lexie Larcher of Paradise Valley.

Other semifinalists (top 15) were Ayushka Singh Gharib of Mesa, Leslie Allyn of Glendale, Viorela Tarachiu of Peoria, Ariel Cuevas of Vail, Kristina Pena of Tucson, Melissa Younkins of San Tan Valley, D'adra Sites of Mohave Valley, Kristina Boynova of Tucson, Destinee Quinn of Surprise and Christina Kenyon of Yavapai County.

Other awards included:

-- Special achievement in swimsuit: Kadalena Abraham of Gilbert;

-- Special achievement in evening gown: Marissa Rambow of Tucson;

-- Special achievement in interview: Siera Lambrecht of Phoenix;

-- Spirit: Lindsay Fernandez of Peoria;

-- People's Choice: Amorette Rinkleib of Tucson;

-- Congeniality: Danielle Baltazar of Grand Canyon;

-- Photogenic: Melissa Younkins of San Tan Valley.

In the Miss Arizona Teen USA competition, Alexa Zellers, 17, of Scottsdale, was the winner. She is a junior at Notre Dame Prep High School in Phoenix.

Kelly Seiberlich of Tucson made the top 15 and was chosen as Miss Photogenic.
