Car accident seriously injures grandmother in Marana

MARANA, AZ (KOLD) - A 65-year-old grandmother was airlifted with life-threatening injuries to a Tucson hospital Sunday after an accident at Picture Rocks and Sandario roads.

The accident happened at 4:15 p.m. when a Toyota passenger vehicle was hit by a Ford half-ton truck at the intersection, Pima County Sheriff's spokesperson Dawn Barkman said.

The truck's driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 17-year-old woman was driving the Toyota, with her grandmother as a passenger. The teenager was transported with non-life-threatening injuries, Barkman said.

The seriously injured woman's daughter serves overseas in the military, Barkman said. Sheriff's personnel were attempting to contact her Sunday night.
