TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - More and more people are asking for help during this tough economy and it's taking a toll on the nation's food banks.
The Community Food Bank in Tucson is having a hard time keeping up with increased demand, but it's getting a little help this week.
At 10:30 a.m. Tuesday Smithfield Packing and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union are donating 30,000 pounds of protein.
It's part of their "Feeding Hunger Tour" providing families in need from coast to coast with more than 5-million pounds of protein.
Safeway is also helping out in the effort.
Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords' District Director Ron Barber and the Director of Community Outreach from the Mayor's Office Jessica Shultz are both speaking at the event.
The protein will help feed thousands of families Southern Arizona.
