TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Happening today, the Arizona Board of Regents is meeting at the University of Arizona and one group is planning to protest that meeting.
Students and community members will be rallying later this morning to air their grievances. They want to send a message to Board member Dennis Deconcini.
He is both a member of the Arizona Board of Regents, which oversees the state universities, he is also sits on the Board of Directors for the Corrections Corporation of America or CCA.
Protestors want him to step down from his CCA Board position.
CCA is the nation's largest private prison company and leading jailer of immigrant detainees. Protestors say the company profits from the continued jailing of immigrants; though Deconcini has voiced opposition to immigration bills such as SB1070.
U of A students and community members plan to speak to the Regents this morning, at their meeting. Then they plan to rally at the UA Student Union at noon.
