This is a Guest Editorial by John Newport, PhD:

On March 12, Gov. Jan Brewer announced her legislative proposal to take advantage of funding available under the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, to restore Medicaid services to 300,000 low-income Arizonans.

These citizens were previously dropped from coverage as an austerity measure.  If passed, this measure will bring $1.6 billion of additional health care funding into our state, at no cost to the taxpayers of Arizona.

This funding will create an estimated 21,000 jobs, and will reimburse our hospitals for the costs of care to needy Arizonans that the hospitals have been forced to absorb since the Medicaid cut-backs.  Most importantly, Medicaid coverage will be restored to needy Arizonans and thousands of lives will be saved!

While this common sense measure is backed by many in the medical and business community, a number of misguided legislators - including Speaker of the House Andy Tobin and Senate President Andy Biggs - are opposed to passage.

We must stand up and MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD!  Please contact your legislators TODAY, and John Kavanagh, House Appropriations Chairman, and urge them to support the Governor's Medicaid Restoration Proposal.
