TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Officers have put out a massive fire that started in a heap of used tires around 2:30 p.m. in an alleyway next to the Jack Furrier tire shop near Ajo and Palo Verde.

Rural/Metro Fire Crews found heavy black smoke between two buildings in the 3600 block of S. Palo Verde Road, according to a news release.

Fire crews are still running water through the alleyway and continue to tackle hot spots.  Emergency vehicles are blocking north bound Palo Verde so officers are directing traffic.

The area on fire served as a storage area of used tires and retired vehicle storage.

The crew worked quickly to prevent the wind from allowing the fire to spread.

Overall, 22 firefighters extinguished the flames in 35 minutes and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire and the estimated damages were undetermined.
