TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) – Arizona families seeking better education options for their children have two days left to apply for an Empowerment Scholarship Account.

The Department of Education is accepting applications for the program until 3 p.m. on May 1.

The Empowerment Scholarship Account is a school choice program that gives parents the ability to choose the best education option for their child.

The scholarship was first created for special needs children and now includes children in "D" and "F" failing schools, foster and adoptive children and children of active-duty military families.

The Empowerment Scholarship is a private bank account that parents use for education expenses.

The State of Arizona also deposits a share of the child's education funding into the account, which parents can use to help pay for school tuition, online classes, tutoring, books, and other expenses.

Families can apply for the program at
