Tucson Greyhound Park's 'top dog' forced out

SOUTH TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Tucson's Greyhound Park has a new interim CEO after its former one was let go. But it's not because of anything having to do with the dogs at the south side track.

For 12 years, former CEO Tom Taylor ran things at Greyhound Park. After many controversies, he was shown the door on July 3. Taylor says he was fired over making decisions the owners based out of Florida did not agree with.

Those decisions centered around leasing printers that cost too much money.

Taylor says he was already planning on retiring in January but the owners wouldn't let him stick it out.

Tucson Greyhound Park has had its share of controversy recently. Taylor told Tucson News Now Monday he admits he used to skirt the law and have steroids injected into the dogs as a form of birth control.

When it became illegal in South Tucson, he would have vets take the dogs just yards away into the city limits of Tucson and do the same thing. But he says this had nothing to do with the firing and he takes full responsibility.

"It sort of caught me off guard," said Taylor. "I was sort of prepared for it. I had messed up by dealing with certain individuals in a copier company that took advantage of me so I deserved what I got."

Numerous calls to the new interim CEO of Greyhound Park were not returned.
