Victim identified from SW side motorcycle crash

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - New details have been released Sunday about the motorcycle accident that happened on Bopp and Kinney Roads Saturday evening, including the identities of the two motorcyclists involved.

Pima County Sheriff's Department released a statement saying the deceased man was 53-year-old Michael Bell. Bell was struck by a motorcycle being driven by 59-year-old Sherman Kidd Jr. Neither of the riders were wearing helmets at the time of the accident. Kidd remains in the hospital in serious condition.

The initial investigation revealed that three motorcycles were involved. Bell and a friend were riding together heading west on Bopp from Kinney. Kidd was also traveling west on Bopp at a high rate of speed when he hit Bell, according to PCSD.

Witnesses say Kidd was driving recklessly and passing cars. Alcohol and speed are believed to have both been factors in the crash.

Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who may have more information, including the friend who was with Bell. The third motorcyclist left the scene of the accident before first responders arrived.
