Game and Fish officials seek alleged javelina killing suspect

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Arizona Game and Fish Department seeks a suspect in connection with the illegal killing of a javelina that died of apparent arrow wounds.

Authorities discovered the javelina at 7:30 a.m. Saturday near Camino Del Cerro and Placita Del Monte.

There is no current open hunting season for javelina. AGFD Investigators said the javelina was shot with field tips, which they said are typically used for archery target practice rather than hunting.

"Poachers are not hunters, they are thieves stealing wildlife from the citizens of Arizona," Game and Fish Regional Supervisor Raul Vega stated in a news release. "Leaving the carcass to waste is disgraceful."

Anyone with information is asked to call Operation Game Thief at (800) 352-0700 and reference OGT#13-002691.

The department said it will offer a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to a suspect arrest.
