TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Saguaro National Park is one of dozens of national parks that will remain closed until congress passes a budget.
Until further notice, visitor centers, hiking trails and all roads inside national park areas are closed. Hikers, bikers and other outdoor enthusiasts will not be able to access national parks while they remain closed. Citations can be issued to anyone that trespasses into national park property until they reopen.
Park closures are also effecting workers. At Saguaro National Park, 67 out of 79 employees are furloughed, meaning they will be staying at home without pay until Congress passes a budget.
Only a handful of law enforcement officers and fire personnel will continue working at national parks during the government shutdown.
