TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The driver who hit and killed a bicyclist during El Tour de Tucson over the weekend says the entire incident is a blur. This morning, the Department of Public Safety identified the driver as 78-year-old Steven Lang of Dove Mountain. At this point, no charges have been filed.

DPS officers say Saturday night, Lang was traveling along the eastbound frontage lane near the Sunset exit. He was in the right lane which was supposed to be for El Tour de Tucson bicyclists.

Authorities say Lang may have suffered from a medical condition when he struck 59-year-old John Henderson. Henderson later died.

Lang tells Tucson News Now he is still very depressed over the crash and hasn't driven since. Lang says he never saw any bicyclists, it was dark out and only remembers what happened after the crash. An officer asked him what day of the week and month it was, and he did not know.

Lang is a type two diabetic and says his blood sugar level was low at the time. He was coming home from the U of A football game when it happened. He doesn't know why he was heading east on the frontage road.

He declined to talk on camera but said "it's the worst thing that's ever happened to me in my life. There's nothing I can do about it now. I'm sorry."

Lang says he feels terrible about what happened and hopes the family of John Henderson, the man killed, will forgive him. He understands he could face charges and a civil lawsuit in the future and that does worry him.
