Oro Valley resident victim of online home rental scam

ORO VALLEY, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Another warning for online scams for Oro Valley residents, this one involves Zillow and home rentals.
Oro Valley Police are sending out the warning after one resident reported being the victim of a rental scam.
According to OVPD the victim had found a house for rent on the Zillow website and called in about it, the suspect told the victim for $800 they would hold the house, as others were interested as well. The victim sent the money, according to OVPD; it was only after the suspect asked for more money that the victim got suspicious and called police.
The scam is suspects took photos from a legitimate house for sale listing, and relisted it as house for rent.
OVPD would like to remind residents that this scam could happen to anyone in Pima County and to contact the police before they lose too much money.
One reminder the police would like to offer is double check information online and contact police if they feel like it might be a scam.
