TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - One man died and three people were injured in a two car accident early Saturday morning.

Detectives say that 28-year-old Juan M Hernandez-Rodriguez was driving a 2000 Chevy Impala south on 6th Avenue and he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time. A 1994 Honda Civic turned onto the street in front of him. Hernandez-Rodriguez rammed into the back of the Honda and spun out across the street, jumped a curb, hit a bus bench canopy and landed against a chain fence in a dirt lot.

The Honda burst into flames upon impact. When officers arrived on the scene, bystanders were helping to get the 22-year-old passenger out of the Honda. They were unable to get the driver out of the car and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 24-year-old passenger on the Chevy Impala had minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.

Hernandez-Rodriguez was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He has been booked into Pima County Jail for one count of 2nd degree murder, one count of aggravated assault, one count of endangerment and one count of felony criminal damage.
