Late night fire at high school

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A fire was ignited in the "Old Liberty School Building" on the 5000 block of S Liberty Ave late Friday night, according to Barrett Baker of the Tucson Fire Department.

Firefighters received multiple calls reporting smoke and flames that appeared to coming from S.T.A.R. Academy High School. When a team arrived, flames were already shooting through the roof of the school.

Firefighters forced their way into the school with hoses, but it became too dangerous for them to be inside the burning building. So, they attacked the fire from the outside, pouring thousands of gallons of water onto the flames, according to Capt. Baker.

The fire was extinguished without injury. An investigation is being conducted to determine what started the fire.

Sunnyside Unified School District released a statement saying that the building was used for storage and was not a part of the school. Representative Mary Veres said that classes would continues normally after Friday's fire.
