TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - It's been five years since a weekly downtown evening run started.
Now, Meet Me at Maynard's has exploded in popularity.
Hundreds of people flock to downtown Tucson for the run every Monday and it's given businesses an economic boost.
It started off with just a couple hundred people, but now every Monday night about 600 to 700 people show up at Hotel Congress for the event.
Because of its 5th anniversary, the organizers made it a huge celebration. Bands were out and people ate some barbeque. The organizer says they've had this 4-mile run every Monday day for 263 weeks in a row. It started off just at Maynard's Market, but because it grew so big, it starts at Hotel Congress. Because it's a night when businesses is normally slow in the downtown area, businesses here say this event brings a lot of foot traffic to restaurants, bars and shops. Many offer discounts to people doing the run.
