TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Governor Jan Brewer vetoed two bills today that would have extended gun rights in Arizona.

House Bill 2339 would have allowed people to bring guns into public buildings and events that don't have security guards or metal detectors.

Gun control groups said the bill would've forced places like libraries to hire armed guards and install metal detectors.

House Bill 2517 would have prohibited cities and counties from making their own gun laws if those laws were stricter than state laws, by giving individuals the right to sue over the laws.

The cities and counties could have been sued by people in the county who didn't agree with the laws.

The NRA backed both bills.
