ORO VALLEY, AZ (Tucson News Now) - ORO VALLEY, AZ (Tucson News Now) –A deadly crash in Oro Valley is under investigation.

It happened Sunday night around 6:20 at the intersection of La Cholla and West Lambert in Oro Valley.

The initial investigation finds that a white Chevrolet truck heading West drove through a red light and crashed into a VW Beetle traveling south on La Cholla, according to Lt. Kara Riley with Oro Valley Police Department.

She said the driver of the Volkswagen, 48-year-old Karl Mason, died at the scene and the passenger suffered life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews rushed the passenger to UAMC's trauma center via helicopter.

The driver of the truck was not hurt and refused medical treatment, according to officers at the scene. Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the crash, according to Riley.
