ORO VALLEY, AZ (Tucson News Now) - 2015 ushered in some cold weather, with several areas in Southern Arizona getting a dusting of snow on the ground, even areas of Tucson have the white stuff.

Snow was expected on Wednesday, for elevations as low as 2,000 feet. There are a number of areas with snow already on the ground around the Old Pueblo, like Oracle, Gates Pass and even Corona de Tucson. However, due to the ground being warm, the snow will likely melt pretty quickly.

For those drivers who are going to brave the winter weather and drive, the Arizona Highway Patrol Association has some tips to remember.

Items that should be in the car - a flashlight, drinking water, gloves and a first aid kit and as special additions for winter - an ice scraper and a blanket.  These are just a few of the items AHPA recommends.

APHA is also reminding drivers and passengers that are stuck during winter weather to stay in their vehicles, turn on the flashers, then call for help and wait inside until help arrives.
