TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A type of mail theft more common around the holidays is happening around Tucson, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

The department said it received reports of stolen mail involving thieves who follow delivery trucks and then take the package intended for the homeowner.

Deputies advise residents to protect their mail and deliveries by using the “signature required” option or have it dropped off at a neighbor's house if you're not there during the day; use a P.O. box; and be on the lookout for suspicious people walking or driving around the neighborhood who could potentially be looking for deliveries.

Those who see a mail thief or want to report stolen mail can call police or the Postal Inspectors at (877) 876-2455 and press “3.”
