Oro Valley man hospitalized after bee attack

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - An Oro Valley man is being treated in a hospital after he was attacked by a swarm of bees on Wednesday evening.

According to the Golder Ranch Fire District, a neighbor heard the 84-year-old man screaming in the 1300 block of East Scorpius Street, near East Tangerine Road and North First Avenue, and rushed to his aid at about 6:40 p.m. He dragged the victim to the front yard, where Oro Valley police tried unsuccessfully to get the bees off him.

Golder Ranch personnel arrived and transported the man to Oro Valley Hospital for treatment. He was stabilized and is reported to be breathing and talking.

Golder Ranch said that just on his head and arms the man received over 400 stings and the total number of stings likely could be higher.

The hive was found in a backyard shed.
