TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A local teen is one of 2,500 winners nationwide to receive a scholarship toward higher education from Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program.

Madelyn Broome, 18, is being recognized for positively impacting her community, according to a news release.

Broome kickstarted a library club for the Rincon/University High School Library to create awareness and support to renovate it.

The club raised enough funding to purchase books, a performance stage, an art gallery and art supplies.

She was recognized as a regional winner and awarded $1,000.

The scholarship is part of Kohl's philanthropic program to improve the lives of children, according to the release.
