TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Donation to Ben's Bells tripled from Maynards Market and Kitchen, thanks to the second annual Ice Cream Showdown.
According to a recent release this is only the second time the Ice Cream Showdown has taken place and over $4,700 was raised for the Ben's Bells Project.
"We knew that only good things could come from combining kindness and ice cream! But we never could have imagined how generous a donation we would receive from Maynards' because of this event," said Jeannette Maré, Executive Director of Ben's Bells and Ben's Mom. "Wow! This contribution provides significant and vital support for our rapidly growing programs - it's an investment in building a foundation of kindness in our community for all of us! We are thrilled and grateful!"
There were 575 ice cream lovers who attended the event, sampling ice cream from nine local creameries. Those creameries were:
- Screamery Ice Cream
- Gentle Ben’s
- The Hub
- Isabella’s Ice Cream
- Brushfire Ice Creamery
- Cashew Cow
- The Cup Cafe
- Maynards Kitchen
Winners for the event included two 'golden scoops' for the Screamery for Best Overall and Most Inventive for the Bacon and Bourbon ice cream. Brushfire Creamery also snapped up a scoop for Kid's Choice for its blue Cookie Monster flavor.
With the 2015 Showdown a success, Maynards is hoping to increase the goal for the 2016 Showdown by hosting 1,000 ticket holders and raising even more money for Ben's Bells.
