TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - When Gabby Morrison's mom d ropped her off for school on Tuesday morning, Gabby had no idea there would be an extra special visitor there to walk her home.
Army soldier Matthew Hughey landed back in Arizona on Tuesday morning after serving the U.S. for the last six months.
Hughey had been up for the last 30 hours, but he fought the urge to sleep.
He waited to surprise his 9-year-old sister, Gabby, at Copper Creek Elementary School.
"She is right in the middle of the field," said her mom, Julie.
It is the sign they have been waiting for; everyone then took their positions for the emotional reunion.
Gabby attempted to fight back tears but seeing her brother was just too much to handle.
"I just missed him so much," she said.
Hughey said he couldn't have been happier to put that smile on his sister's face.
"It means a lot to me," he said. "Being away from home and what not and being able to surprise her after school like this and her not knowing I was coming home means a lot to me."
Now that Hughey will be home for a while, Gabby looks forward to her big brother walking her home from school for days to come.
