Time to get flu shot as season begins

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - October is the start of flu season and health experts say right now is the time to start thinking about getting the flu shot.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends everyone six months old and older get the new 2015-2016 flu vaccine as soon as it becomes available. The reason is because it takes up to two weeks for it to set in and protect them from getting sick.

The Minute Clinic inside CVS Pharmacy is one of the health clinics that provide the new flu vaccine. It is available at no cost through most insurance plans.

Pima County Health Department says they have not received the new 2015-2016 flu vaccine from the Arizona Department of Health Services yet, but expect to soon.
